What is a Air Source Heat Pump?
An ASHP is an alternative way of heating your property without being harmful to the environment. Unlike a conventional heating system that uses fossil fuels or LPG to generate heat, an ASHP uses the air from outside.
An ASHP can be used for a range of different energy needs such as heating radiators, underfloor heating, solar and more.
An ASHP truly is the domestic heating system of the future!
Step 1
The Air Source Heat Pump takes in the air from outside to heat a liquid refrigerant.
Step 2
Using electricity, the pump compresses the liquid to increase its temperature. This then condenses back into liquid to release stored heat.
Step 3
Heat is sent to radiators, underfloor heating etc – the remainder is used to heat a hot water cylinder.
Step 4
Stored hot water can be used for showers, baths and taps etc.
Our Domestic Energy Assessors will provide a more in depth overview of what an ASHP is and how it works at the consultation stage.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The Boiler Upgrade (BUS) Scheme is a government funded scheme to help reduce the financial impact on residents, when switching to a renewable energy source to heat their homes.
The government will provide grants to encourage property owners to install low carbon heating systems such as heat pumps, through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). These grants will help property owners overcome the upfront cost of low carbon heating technologies.
You will be able to get £5,000 off the cost and installation of an air source heat pump.
The scheme is open to domestic and small non-domestic properties in England and Wales. The scheme will run from 2022 to 2025.
You may be eligible if you:
- Live in England or Wales
- Property owner (whether this is a home or a small non-domestic property)
The property will need to have:
An installation capacity up to 45kWth (this covers most homes)
A valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation (unless you have an insulation exemption)
New build properties will not normally be eligible.
The only exception is if you’re building your own home.
How the scheme will work:
Your installer will apply for the grant on your behalf. The value of the grant will be discounted off the price you pay.
Register your interest now. We as MCS certified ASHP installers will apply for the £5,000 grant on your behalf.
